Its masters’ stature, the hand of bounty bestows favors.

قالت صحون حلاوات لجاحقه
هذيthese المكارمdeeds of generosity لاnot قعبانtwo bowls منof لبنmilk
هذي المكارم لا قعبان من لبن
Dishes of sweetmeats said to [an unclear addressee]:
She said bowls of sweets to her grinder,
“These are deeds of generosity, not two bowls of milk.”
These kindnesses, not curds made from milk.

يا صاحب السيف من ذهنٍ تزان به
لقدindeed فخرتyou excelled in glory علىover سيفSayf ابنson of ذيDhi (possessor of) يزنYazan
لقد فخرت على سيف ابن ذي يزن
O wielder of a sword of wit with which you are adorned,
O companion of the sword of a balanced mind,
You have indeed surpassed Sayf ibn Dhi Yazan in glory.
You have certainly boasted of the sword of the son of Dhi Yazan.
