I kissed my reproacher's mouth when he named you.
I kissed the lips of my beloved when she named you,
And it was so sweet that I seemed to be kissing your mouth.
So I kept on kissing until it was as if I were kissing you.

حبًّا لذكراك في سمعي وفي خلدي

Out of love for your remembrance in my hearing and my mind,
Out of love for the mention of you in my hearing and in my heart,
all this, though your remembrance wounded my heart.
Even if the mention of you wounds my heart.

Be haughty and turn away whenever you wish, and rule
Rebuke me and turn me away if you wish, and judge
over souls, for beauty has appointed you ruler.
The souls - for beauty is yours alone.

my standing with you at the Resurrection will be prolonged.
My standing with you will be prolonged on the Day of Resurrection.

فما تثنيك إلاَّ من ثناياك
In your mouth is wine, and in youth's supple frame, a sway;
In your mouth is wine, and in the bending of the branches is flexion,
so your swaying comes only from your front teeth.
So nothing turns you aside except your own inclinations.

I did not weep for my own ruin in loving you,
I did not cry because I was lost in you,
but because the heart's blaze is your dwelling.
Except that the burning of my heart had made you its home.

May it delight you today, for the heart is your pasture."

O tears of mine, which I have squandered extravagantly,
O tears of mine, which I have lavishly spent,
how well you could have done without this faithfulness and devotion!
No wealth has availed against such loyalty and righteousness.

The faces of lovers have come to accept you.

And however much we forget, by God, we do not forget you.

We almost meet you when you come to mind,
as though your name, O Su‘da, were you yourself.
As if your name, O Sa'di, were derived from "meeting."

And we complain to the birds, blaming them for parting,
though the birds of parting are only your mounts.
Though the birds of passion are only your carriages.

We tend to your pacts in ease and travel,
as Ibn Ayyub tends the plight of the refuge-seeking complainant.
Like the tending of Ibn Ayyub to the state of the wretched complainant,

The learned king, the traveling ruler -

May God guide him rightly in the land, between the orbits.

By God, what excellent things has time brought you!

may God increase your excellence and grant you life.
So may God increase you in virtue and keep you alive!

in kingship, from lavish givers to deadly slayers.

Master of judgment, whose acuity makes abundant weaponry complain;
The counsel whose wisdom complains of the sharpness of arms -
hence abundant weaponry is called 'complaining.'
Thus is the sharp sword called "the complainant."

while rain, in thunder, utters a weeper's sob.
And the rain signals the lament of the weeping cloud,

Ibn 'Ali has effaced your beauty, O mirrors!

Then my call against you has proven true.

With a vanguard in the darkness of grievous affairs.

And my means in you transcended deviation and partnership.
