أيا سائلي عن مذهب العتب والولا

لأهل زمانٍ أنه لشديد

لأهل زمانٍ أنه لشديد

O you who ask me about the way of reproach and loyalty

O questioner about the doctrine of reproach and affection

toward the people of an age—it is indeed severe.

For the people of an era that was so hard

أوالي عليًّا خلد الله مجده

أوالي عليًّا خلد الله مجده

وأشكو أذى عثمان وهو يزيد

وأشكو أذى عثمان وهو يزيد

I am loyal to Ali—may God make his glory everlasting—

I befriend Ali, may God make his glory eternal

and I complain of Uthman's harm, which keeps increasing.

And I complain of the harm from Uthman as it increases
