تقسَّمwas divided بينbetween معتقدِيmy conviction ولفظِيand my words
تقسَّم بين معتقدِي ولفظِي
I love you, O peerless one of the age, with a love
I love you, O partner of my time, with a love
Divided between my conviction and my words.
That is divided between my belief and my expression,
وليسَand is not بنافعٍof any use هذاthis ولاnor ذاthat
وليسَ بنافعٍ هذا ولا ذا
إذاif كانَis المحبُّthe lover قليلَlittle حظّluck
إذا كانَ المحبُّ قليلَ حظّ
Yet neither this nor that is of any use
And this is of no benefit, neither this nor that,
If the lover has little luck.
If the lover has little fortune
