قلتI said إذwhen عمَّencompassed عليٌّAli بالندىwith generosity
قلت إذ عمَّ عليٌّ بالندى
سائرall الناسthe people لقدindeed خصّespecially favored رئيساa chief
سائر الناس لقد خصّ رئيسا
I said, when Ali lavished his bounty upon
When Ali was covered with dew,
all the people: he has indeed especially favored a chief.
He was distinguished as a chief above all people.
صاحبkeeper of الأسرارthe secrets بحرa sea مسعفhelpful
صاحب الأسرار بحر مسعف
لوزيرto the vizier of الشامal-Sham يثنيwards off عنهfrom him بؤساmisery
لوزير الشام يثني عنه بؤسا
The keeper of secrets is a sea that lends aid
The keeper of secrets, a helpful sea
to the vizier of al-Sham, warding off misery from him.
To the minister of Damascus, removing misery from him.
رَبّLord سخَّرmake subservient ليَto me موسىMusa مسعفاًas a helper
رَبّ سخَّر ليَ موسى مسعفاً
ياO إلهاًGod سخَّرmade subservient البحرthe sea لموسىto Moses
يا إلهاً سخَّر البحر لموسى
Lord, make Musa serve me as a helper,
My Lord appointed Moses as a helper for me.
O God who made the sea serve Moses.
O God, You subjected the sea for Moses.
