جمالJamāl (beauty) دينfaith الإلهGod أنقذَنيrescued me
جمال دين الإله أنقذَني
منfrom عثرتيmy stumble وانتقىand selected ثناpraise كلميmy words
من عثرتي وانتقى ثنا كلمي
Jamāl—the beauty of God's faith—rescued me
The beauty of God's faith has saved me
From my stumble, and selected the praise in my words.
From my stumbling and refined my words
يسألhe seeks عزّيmy honor ويقتضيand calls for طلبيmy request
يسأل عزّي ويقتضي طلبي
وكلand all ذاthis حيلةٌa stratagem علىaimed at الكرمgenerosity
وكل ذا حيلةٌ على الكرم
He seeks my honor and calls for my request,
He asks my glory and fulfills my request
And all this is a stratagem aimed at generosity.
And all with skill upon generosity
علَّمهtaught him الفضلexcellence فيin مناصبهhis offices
علَّمه الفضل في مناصبه
منHe who علَّمtaught الكاتبينthe scribes بالقلمwith the pen
من علَّم الكاتبين بالقلم
He was taught excellence in his offices
Taught him merit in his positions
By Him who taught the scribes with the pen.
