د بدبوقة غزت بمظفر
A dark-complexioned woman flirted with me in the guise of beardless
A dark-skinned beauty courted me in the garb of the full moon
youths; with a birdlime snare, she went to war with Muzaffar.
Brandishing a flute, she marched triumphantly

Of a dark-skinned beauty, and today in the garb of one even darker

If only my mind were free to serve my poetry

Would that my poetry grew clear, as it was long ago;
If only my poetry were pure as it was of old
so perhaps the years will erase what has grown clouded.
That perchance time would erase the tarnish

If out of numbness I have become alarmed

My diction, it is said, betrays my condition
