Indeed, whenever I sense a sorrow approaching,

When I sense a worry approaching,

I hasten to block its path with pleasures,

I hasten to cut off its path with pleasures,

وذكرت ألفاظ الحبيب وكأسه

وذكرت ألفاظ الحبيب وكأسه

فنعمتُ بين حديثه وعتيقه

فنعمتُ بين حديثه وعتيقه

And recall the beloved's words and his cup,

And I recall the words of the beloved and his cup,

Then revel between his talk and his aged wine.

So I delight between his new and old.
