Every day he faces, over you, a slanderer and a reproacher,
Each day he has a new, enchanting grace,
and in his heart is an engrossing care born of love.
And in his heart, preoccupying love finds its place.

A man of passion, his eye grown rich in sleeplessness,
A youth whose glance outshines the brightest star,
yet tears of his stream down his cheek.
Though tears of passion down his cheeks regularly mar.

Steadfast in devotion, even when departure becomes urgent,
Staunch though departure urges its case,
and close, though the dwellings lie far from him.
Loyal though far-flung camps call out and say:

"Change place!"
upon a bough, pangs of grief are stirred within him.
When in the dawn, the doves' leaves rustle and coo

And a glance, when his temple-locks surround it—
With magic arts, Babylon, in its day, wove him a story.
it is nothing but his sword and its baldrics.

While telling the utmost, telling how high he can claim.
and al-Suhā told the sun, “Your hue has faded.”

The daughter of his cheek-down baffled the eloquent describer,
As his face outshines the full moon's veil.

Eloquence wearied praising the daughter of grapes

While the archer mocked the boasting of vain men and fakes.

When he walked on the plain, it was arrayed,

It was not the reproacher’s ignorance that I feared; rather,
The stars, meteors, and Pleiades obeyed.
I loathe the ignorant man who feigns wisdom.
Not from fools' ignorance have I restrained my pen,

For him, like the moon, I burned, an orb rising plain,
alas for me—the full moon shines and sets.
But alas! The moon has set, its light on the wane!

But sorrow! For the guest has left, the house is in pain!

After our rare, blessed meetings, which were too few,
of grief by those few days of meeting.
My heart has known many long pains of longing anew!

May Allah water the days of meeting with ease,
a minister’s, for they stream and pour without restraint.
With delight and joy - those days that heartsease!

A minister with a palm for the seeker of bounty,
For his seeker of merit, comfort has ceased
yet his bountiful deeds have wearied it.
As virtues have wearied it without release.

So tribes flocked to hope - not a few!

When assemblies praised the noble and brave.

His figure moved to and fro in the ministry’s firmament,
In the horizon of leadership, he came and went
as the celestial stations bring back the stars of heaven.

He ceased singing, following ascetic ways,
and a place he has left is truly unadorned.
Although known for voice, if he gave it plays.
