حاكيت عرقوب الوعود

وبتُّ دون الخلّ لاقط
You imitated Arqūb in promises,
Promises flowed from your tongue like honey,
and I spent the night without the dear friend, gleaning.
Yet under the honey lurked deceit.
فسقطتso fell منfrom عينيmy eye نداbounty (literally, dew)
فسقطت من عيني ندا
كyour (suffix completing the preceding word) ومنand whoever تعرقبacts like Arqūb فهوthen he is ساقطfallen
ك ومن تعرقب فهو ساقط
So from my eye fell the bounty—
Tears fell from my eyes like dew,
yours; and whoever acts like Arqūb is fallen.
He who makes false promises will surely fall.
