سحبُ الرضا تحت الضرائح وَبْلها
O house of Ayyub, may you be watered
O house of Ayyub, the clouds of contentment watered you
Beneath the tombs by the downpour of clouds of favor.
Beneath the awnings, but then withheld their rain

نعماكُم فوق البريَّة ظلّها
Alas for the days of rule, when
I yearn for the days when your kingdom bestowed
Your bounty spread its shade over humankind.
Its blessings over the wilderness, shading it

بأساً وأعلى في النجومِ محلُّها
How mighty against foes was the fiercest of them
None among the enemies was mightier in valor
In battle, and how lofty among the stars their station!
Nor higher in the stars was his station

أموالكم فأزالها وأذلَّها

Ransoms offered hastily bowed before
Your wealth, then swept it away and debased it.
Your wealth, so it removed and humbled them

How often beyond this have your hands declaimed
'How plentiful it was for us—and how scant!'
Poems whose verses were mostly ours, seldom theirs

I called out to your courtyard and said to my companion:
I called out in your dwelling and said to my friend
'How swift its bounty once was to a caller!'
None was swifter to answer the call than it
