1. كلّ الجوانح قلب فيك مشغوف

    وما لحاصل حبِّي عنك مصروف

    All my ribs are a heart enthralled by you.

    And the sum of my love has no turning away from you.

  2. ذكري بخاطرك الناسي مصادفة

    وخاطري عن سوى ذكراك مصدوف

    Remembrance of me comes by chance to your forgetful mind,

    While my mind is turned away from all but remembrance of you.

  3. يا ظبية من ظباء الحيّ نافرة

    حتَّامَ هجرك شيء منك مألوف

    O skittish gazelle among the gazelles of the tribe,

    How long will forsaking me remain your familiar habit?

  4. ويل لجفنيّ لا جفنيك من سهرٍ

    لكيله في الدجى خسر وتطفيف

    Woe to my eyelids—not yours—from sleeplessness:

    In its measure in the darkness, there is loss and shortchanging.

  5. يا باذل الوفر في الدنيا لآخرة

    بشراكَ فضل على الأخرى وتسليف

    O giver of abundant wealth in this world for the hereafter,

    Your glad tidings are a boon beyond the next life’s reward, and an advance.

  6. عذراً لنظميَ والدنيا مطابقة

    شكواي مستورة والحال مكشوف

    Pardon my verse, while the world is in accord:

    My complaint is veiled, while my plight lies bare.

  7. وضعف فكريَ عن نظم القريض له

    كالعدّ في رقعة الشطرنج تضعيف

    And my mind’s weakness at composing verse has

    A doubling, like the count upon a chessboard.

  8. لا زلت أنشد قولي فيك من قدمٍ

    وأنت بالخلعةِ الزهراء محفوف

    I never cease reciting my old words about you,

    While you are enfolded in the radiant robe of honor.

  9. أهل يهنيك بالتشريف محتفلاً

    يا من بأيامه المعروف معروف

    Would anyone joyfully congratulate you on the honor bestowed,

    O you in whose days benevolence is known?

  10. لكنني بك أختار الهناء لها

    فإن قدرك للتشريف تشريف

    But I choose to congratulate it on having you,

    For your worth is an honor to the honor bestowed.
