ياAh رُبَّmany a أمردbeardless youth قدalready سبرتI plumbed غويرهhis little valley
يا رُبَّ أمرد قد سبرت غويره
حتىuntil أزالَremoved الشعرthe hair ذاكthat الرَّونقاthe luster
حتى أزالَ الشعر ذاك الرَّونقا
Ah, many a beardless youth whose little valley I have plumbed,
O Lord, a young man has lost his youth
Until hair took away that luster.
And so his charm and poetry fade away
وتنكرتand grew unrecognizable صفةappearance الغويرthe little valley فلمso did not يكنbe
وتنكرت صفة الغوير فلم يكن
ذاكthat الغويرthe little valley ولاnor النقاthe sand dune ذاكthat النقاthe sand dune
ذاك الغوير ولا النقا ذاك النقا
And the little valley's appearance grew unrecognizable, so it was no longer
Gone is the vigor of his younger days
That same little valley, nor was the dune that same dune.
No longer as he was in times now past
