Stop at the sanctuary after the full moons have gone, and call out.
Stand at Al-Hima after the tents, and call out,
Have you seen how the gathering-place's radiance has dimmed?
Have you seen how the light of the guide has faded?

أرأيت من حملوا على الأعواد
And litters departed bearing a wasted man's heart.
And litters that were shaded with the shade of an elegant palm tree,
Have you seen whom they carried on the wooden bier?
Have you seen those who were carried on the biers?

وهو الأصحّ وفاد كنت الفادِي
Had I sought to ransom the beloved with my life,
If I thought to ransom my beloved with my soul,
Though he was the healthier and died, I would have been his ransomer.
And he is the most deserving, I would have ransomed him.

As for the darkness of night, it is, as you see,
As for the blackness of the night, it is as you see,
Sleep's eye—my perpetual sleeplessness.
The edge of sleep is always my pillow.

A mourner's tears came early upon your resting-place,
I rose early at your abode with a weeping eye
Like the Nile, with fullness and a herald.
Like the Nile, faithful and calling.

My tears for you grew hot as a bathhouse,
My tears flowed hotly for you like a cistern
When I was bereaved of a blazing star.
When I was saddened by a guiding star.
