ياO ليتwould that أنَّكthat you لمdid not تكرمyou honor بهwith it نُزُليmy reception as a guest
يا ليت أنَّك لم تكرم به نُزُلي
She said, her dwelling in the bosom of the heart’s fire:
She said, while in her breast was the abode of burning passion:
“If only you had not welcomed me with it!”
Oh, would that you had not honored my dwelling with your visit!

A lovely woman—if in her beauty she is an idol,
Though fair she be, an idol in her beauty,
Then, O my reproacher, unblessed be you, my Hubal!
Yet no blessing on my lovesick folly!

Of her, and in praise of the lord supreme in glory,
In praising the most faithful of chieftains it soars high
Poetry was divided between praise and love verse.
Dividing poetry between panegyric and love songs.

For glory, O Ibn Fadl Allah, keep ascending
Blood of the Exalted, O son of the Bounty of God, mounting
The horizon of high honors, already surpassing those of old.
The horizon of glory, having been nurtured on the first.

O you through whom I came to know gains in the thousands—and part of
O you whom I knew through gaining thousands and through
Their perfection is that they came without my asking.
Its perfection, though it came and I did not ask.

Your generosity has left me nothing to hope for;

You left me keeping the world company, without hope.
You left me accompanying the world without hope.

All the skill of men of judgment stands forth
All the competent ones, whose views are present,
Like swords; yet Ali is Dhu al-Fiqar.
Are like swords, but Dhu'l-Faqar is Ali.
