يا حبَّذا في الحسنِ ناعورة
كأنَّهاas though it were منfrom فلكthe celestial sphere الشمسthe sun
كأنَّها من فلك الشمس
Oh, what a beautiful waterwheel!
O you who is excellent in beauty like a fountain
As though it were part of the sun’s celestial sphere.
As if it were from the heavens of the sun
تحميit guards حمىthe sanctuary الروضاتthe gardens منfrom مائِهاits water
تحمي حمى الروضات من مائِها
وشكلهاand its shape بالسيفwith the sword والترسand the shield
وشكلها بالسيف والترس
It guards the gardens’ sanctuary, with its water
It protects the sanctity of gardens with its water
And its shape serving as sword and shield.
And its shape is like a sword and a shield
