O peerless scholar, vizier, and you whose

bounty I hope for when hope deserts me,

And what kept me from your vizierly bounty and from

my customary festival gift was mud too much to bear.

And I missed a dish of sweets and the roast, so there is no

sun at the dawn of my hopes, nor any lamb.

Long may you live for detailed praise, of which it is said, when

it appears: ‘For the likes of this, sums are spent.’
