بعد مسِّ الفقر ذا مالٍ عريض
People said, “So-and-so has become
People said so-and-so became
a man of vast wealth after poverty’s touch.”
After the touch of poverty, a man of ample wealth
لاno وعليائكby your exalted rank ماnot عندِيَin my possession ماanything that
لا وعليائك ما عندِيَ ما
يدخلenters الوزنweight (also poetic meter) سوىexcept نظمthe composing of القريضpoetry
يدخل الوزن سوى نظم القريض
No, by your exalted rank, I have nothing
No, by your life, I have no wealth
that can be weighed, save the verse I compose.
That would fit the meter except for weaved verses
