A lovesick lover sang while the wing of night was murky,

Then it shone before the light of dawn spread.

O dweller in the house of my poetry and my heart, since

One is sound, while the other is broken in part.

If the excess of my love for you has become for me

A sin, then welcome to a sin that cannot be forgiven.

O you whom I congratulate on the approaching feasts,

Fast-Breaking and Sacrifice—while my heart is split therein.

And my wits vanished at the Feast of Sacrifice—so here I am,

As though I were the billy goat, slaying himself out of his anguish.

So it is—and my heart, like my poetry, is where you dwell.

And the house is yours, and kindness is awaited.

A jeweler of praise weeps with longing for you,

So the pearls from him are strung and scattered.
