May you endure as long as time, O joy of time,

And may the age be congratulated on having you, O adornment of the age.

And may the stars ransom your countenance with their sun,

And may you ever gather from them the full moon's halo.

May the wind of battle never cease, for you in combat,

To open the blossoms of victory with gladness.

And may the army whose heart you are never cease

Folding its two wings over victory's egg.

God brought His Prophet the manifest victory,

And this victory of yours made good the promise in deed.

The world and high glory were indeed gladdened by your victory,

And the throne of kingship grew glad at heart.

You arose while generosity's soul lay in death's grasp,

So you rescued it by spreading your ten fingertips.

And brought a smile to the face of time,

And made glory's cheek rosy with your white blades stained red.

And made the spears' flanks sway, as though

You had mixed the blood you made them drink with wine.

The slender forms of lofty glories are the lances you bore,

And their eyes are the cutting blades you brandished.

You strengthened a keen Indian-forged sword with sound judgment,

So, when it struck, it gave voice to the secret's obscure meaning.

You paired its edge with keen resolve, O sir,

So you avenged glory with a single stroke.

And with it you split heads that had long been

Crowned in the pride of error and arrogance.

High glory sees them on her cheek, though they lie in the dust,

Against their blood, a beauty spot upon a maiden's two cheeks.

As though their blood, which watered the soil, had given

Glory's throats, after decay, a draught of al-Khidr.

And you routed the factions of error; had they faltered,

You would have made them follow in their leader Amr's wake.

And, in their own reckoning, you drove them from their homes,

And they had not expected this until the first gathering.

And they cast the ropes of wicked deeds and conjured illusions,

So you countered them with the sword's miracle, not sorcery.

Through you God spared the believers, amid battle,

From fighting the foe, so that you remained free of guilt.

And had your pardon of them not restrained the violence,

You would have returned with iron turned to gold.

And they lingered only briefly; how many you see

Among them—male ostriches fleeing the maiden, the bower's egg.

They fled with the bat in the blackness of night,

And feared the sun's pursuit in the wake of dawn.

Whenever the eagles of your banners appeared to them,

They were lent by ravens the wings of white-fronted waterbirds.

You assailed them amid a host that alone held

The birds of success among the pennons of brown spears.

In it is every valiant man from Hashim's line,

Of the Haydaris, the illustrious noble chiefs.

When they enter a battlefield, its dust almost

Surpasses the finest perfume because of their fragrance.

Clouds of bounty: whenever they are asked, rain pours

From their fingertips for the visitors, in silver and gold.

Lions of close combat: their might within their spears

Flows through their hollow shafts like vipers' venom.

And how many a people before them you struck with a morning raid!

They found no refuge from it on land or sea.

You returned at forenoon from their lions with defiled sword-edges,

Yet refraining from dishonoring them, chaste of cloak and free of guilt.

O father of the seven pure ones, may you ever string

    With them—bright stars—the necklace at glory's neck.

Kings who, whenever they launch a raid, have no

Ambition except to win the spoils of glory.

So whichever of them you choose is your lamp, which

Gives high glory light—and is your pearl-bright star.

And they are the days of your week, which

Run their course over mankind with benefits and harm.

And your deep seas, which you have appointed

To flood and ebb on the day of bounty and battle.

When compared with the noblest, they hold

The rank of the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses within the Remembrance.

Ha-Mim chapters of right guidance, expounded as guidance for mankind,

And verses of victory, revealed on the Night of Decree.

Through them the All-Merciful made your rule prevail among mankind,

So may you and they live out a happy lifetime.
