May you be spared Time's hostility, O peerless one among humankind,

And may fate grant you success in whatever you decree.

And far be it from your eminence that your souls should incline

To distress that leads to blame and abasement.

We take you as our example amid calamities and find guidance

To the ways of goodness, of recommended and obligatory deeds.

How, then, could the darkness of misfortunes love you,

While you are lamps of guidance, the stars of the earth?

    فلا تجزعوا منهُ فذا سببُ البغضِ

    You slew the daughters of Time with valor and generosity;

So do not be distressed by it; that is the cause of its hatred.

Even if its arrows have grievously wounded you,

Then it is enough that you have emerged with your honor intact.
