شطّ العرب إن طفح جودهُ ومدّه طما

شطّ العرب إن طفح جودهُ ومدّه طما

على السويّةِ وفي الاثنين ريّ الظما

على السويّةِ وفي الاثنين ريّ الظما

The Shatt al-Arab, if its bounty overflows and its tide swells,

The Arabs spread widely when his generosity overflowed

stands equal to you, and both quench thirst.

And poured out equally on the low and high lands

لكن ذا يا حسين يداهُ تجري بما

لكن ذا يا حسين يداهُ تجري بما

وأنت يدك بالذهب تجري وسيفك دما

وأنت يدك بالذهب تجري وسيفك دما

But this river, O Husayn—its two hands flow with water,

But these hands of yours, O Hussein, flow with blood

while you—your hand flows with gold, and your sword with blood.

While your hand pours gold and your sword pours blood
