With coquetry's sword she breached my helmet's protection.
My guilt was diminished by the sword of forgiveness,
And with her figure's lance she rent the armor of my endurance.
And my patience was armored by the spear of destiny.

And from beneath the musk of her beauty spot she unveiled for us
She revealed camphor of dawn that split the night of amber,
The camphor of a dawn that split the night of ambergris.
From beneath her musky mole.

Her glances began guarding her sweet saliva,
She came melting away bashfulness from her cheeks,
And her dark-rimmed eyes denied us a draught from Kawthar.
Lighting upon us the hoor and cool water.

The serpents of her hair drew close to her mouth
She brought near to her mouth branches of her ringlets,
And undertook to safeguard the jeweler's treasure.
Adorning herself with treasure of jewels.

O bearer of the mighty sword, if her languishing eyelid brandishes,
Beware the stroke of her languid eyelid.
Beware the stroke of her fragmented eyelid.

And beware, O lord of the slim spear, the stab, if
She charges you with the dusky lance of her stature.
She attacks you with braids the color of dark grapes.

She appeared, and we watched lightning flash, veiled,
She came out, so we witnessed the lightning gleaming,
And the full moon clad in a tunic and a veil.
And the full moon peeking out from its hood.

She walked, and a gazelle passed us, collared,
She walked by, so the antelope passed us adorned,
And a bough draped in a sash and a waist-wrap.
And the bough amidst garment and sash.

By the nights I spent with her, perfumed
Above daisies with crimson anemones.
Above meadows with vermilion chamomile.

And by the garden of my love in the valley,
Which slumber carried away, as bewilderment carried me.
Where languor left it confused and wandering.

By God, al-Aqiq and its people were never mentioned
By God! Neither carnelian nor its people were mentioned
Without passion making it flow through my eye socket.
Except that love drew it into my verse.

If not for it, the frozen tears of my sadness
After freezing, in the heat of remembrance's fire.
Would not have melted by the fire of recollection.

How often there I accompanied gazelles' offspring—
How many gazelles and lions from the enemy's clan
A herd—and a company of al-Shara's lions.
I have accompanied, a flock and a group!

And I lost my way in the pitch-dark dusk of their hair,
I went astray in the darkness of intoxication,
And was guided by a radiance from those faces.
And was guided by those faces with brilliance.

O tribesmen! Who will save a lion's heart
O family with cheeks like perfectly cut carnelian,
Whose death lurked in a wild-cow calf's eye?
You have built your abode in the forest of the rugged valley.

My soul be the ransom of the secluded chamber's gazelle, for whom
I will never forget her visit, nor the scents of dusk
A covert was built in the lion's thicket.
Diffusing their musk when the simoons blow.

I have not forgotten her visit, while the cheeks of night
She nodded and the slim spear shook its blade,
Streamed at their hollows behind the ears with pungent musk.
And dawn split the darkness with its dagger.

The bow lies ready, its arrow guided
And light had assailed darkness with a dagger.
By the claws of the two eagles, the buyer's hands.

The Bow lay athwart; its arrow had been fletched
She began to trill jewels in my hearing,
With the Two Eagles' flight-feathers by Jupiter's hands.
Else, the composer of my verse would not have scattered them.

She draws me close, my cheek upon her shirt,
Without which the stringer of my tears would not have scattered them.

At times I see my wrist, and at times
And I embrace in her, beneath a veil, a straight spear.
From her I see the rosy palm with bangles.

When she saw the garden of violets withering
The Negus's people before Caesar's armies.

And the star had sunk upon a coal-black steed,
She panicked and snapped carnelian with pearls,
And dawn approached upon a chestnut horse's back,
Her tears calmed in the flowing sap.

She sighed in anguish, and her palm upon her breast
Whose gems dwelt in a pool of sugar.

Five lines upon a page of crystal.

Bless her beauty, from a visitor
Donned musk's ashes after she veiled herself.

Son of the gallant, brother of the clouds, father of dew,
Except the glad tidings of al-Haydari's return.
Blessings of the secret sun of our day.

The famous suitor since his infancy,
Barakat, our day's sun, the noble lord.
The highest seeker, beyond estimation.

The lantern of the generous, the dawn which
And sought the heights without reckoning limits.
The night of stinginess would not have borne unless it shone.

The lamp of the generous, and the morning
A spear, when swords are unsheathed, you would think it
Without whose breaking the night of stinginess would not have lifted.
A river flowing from the depth of five seas.

He combined intelligence with courage, high morals,
A river flowing from the depths of five seas.
Opinion with pardon and excellent planning.

The best of mankind, father of Shubayr and Shaybar.

It would not have split in the terror of Resurrection Day.
Fearing it may scorn him in its peaks.

A liberal man who humbled pearls so utterly
And he erased the darkness of tyranny with his white justice,
That fair women's mouths feared he would scorn what lay within.
Until every squint-eyed one fears him.

The whiteness of his justice erased the blackness of tyranny,
He makes the white gazelles like white eggs,
Until every dark-rimmed eye grew fearful.
And their shade by the meadows a song of beauty.

Charity was begun through him, so the acts of generosity
You have gone too far in excess—woe to you, desist!
Do not flow except from his essence as a source.

Yet in counting is counted after the little finger.
And without you, your father would have no pride.

And by a raining cloud from the rainclouds of your bounty:
With its turbulent regions of insecurity calmed.

They had witnessed hell there and the terror of the Gathering.
It would have become exposed, with none to cover it.

Toward the heights when the fierce lion hangs back.

Put on the garb of kingship, O Talut,

And drag the train of virtue with pride and conceit.

And seek help from the prime of our eloquence, whose speech
And drag the trains of excellence proudly, trailing them.

And unveil a virgin of praise: the eloquence of her words
If the Kufan were aware of it, he would not scorn,
Has, with her wisdom, made sport of al-Buhturi's magic.
Or if the Tayi heard it, he would versify.

Had the Kufan known of her, he would not have scorned her;
You remain the crown of glory, the ornament of office,
Or had the Ta'i been aware of her, he would not have composed verse.
