بَهَرتِyou dazzled جَمالاًwith beauty فَرُعتِso you awed البَصَرthe eye
بَهَرتِ جَمالاً فَرُعتِ البَصَر
وَذُبتُand I wasted away سَقاماًwith sickness فَفُتُّso I eluded النَظَرsight
وَذُبتُ سَقاماً فَفُتُّ النَظَر
You dazzled with beauty and awed the eye.
Your beauty stunned me, so I averted my eyes,
And I wasted away with sickness, eluding sight.
And I melted with illness, so my gaze was scattered.
فَصِرتُso I became إِذاwhenever أَمكَنَتwas possible لُقيَةٌa meeting
فَصِرتُ إِذا أَمكَنَت لُقيَةٌ
أُريكِI show you السُهىal-Suha (a faint star) وَتُرينيand you show me القَمَرthe moon
أُريكِ السُهى وَتُريني القَمَر
So now, whenever a meeting is possible,
So I become, whenever a meeting was possible,
I show you al-Suha, and you show me the moon.
You show me the Pleiades, and you show me the moon.
