ياoh حَبَّذاhow lovely وَالبَرقُand the lightning يَزحَفُadvances بُكرَةًearly in the morning
يا حَبَّذا وَالبَرقُ يَزحَفُ بُكرَةً

جَيشاً رَحيقٍ دونَهُ وَحَريقِ
Oh, how lovely, as lightning advances at daybreak,
O what a joy when the lightning creeps at dawn
With an army of pure wine and fire before it!
An army of perfume beneath it and a blaze
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen وَلّىwithdrew وَأَسلَمَand surrendered عَنوَةًby force
حَتّى إِذا وَلّى وَأَسلَمَ عَنوَةً
ماشِئتَwhatever you wished مِنof سَهلٍa plain وَذُروَةِand the summit نيقِa mountain peak
ماشِئتَ مِن سَهلٍ وَذُروَةِ نيقِ
Until, when it withdrew and yielded by force
Until when it turns away and surrenders reluctantly
Whatever you wished of plain and mountain crest,
You may take from a plain or a lofty peak
أَخَذَseized الرَبيعُspring عَلَيهِagainst it كُلَّevery ثَنيَةٍmountain pass
أَخَذَ الرَبيعُ عَلَيهِ كُلَّ ثَنيَةٍ

Spring barred its way at every mountain pass,
Spring has seized upon it every fold
So on every lookout flew a banner of anemones.
So from every outlook flies the red standard
