رَحَلتُI departed عَنكُمfrom you وَليand I have فُؤادٌa heart
رَحَلتُ عَنكُم وَلي فُؤادٌ
تَنفُضُtremble أَضلاعُهُits ribs حَنيناwith longing
تَنفُضُ أَضلاعُهُ حَنينا
I left you with a heart
whose ribs tremble with longing.
أَجودُI give freely فيكُمfor you بِعِلقِwith a treasure of دَمعٍtears
أَجودُ فيكُم بِعِلقِ دَمعٍ
كُنتُI was بِهِwith it قَبلَكُمbefore you ضَنيناsparing
كُنتُ بِهِ قَبلَكُم ضَنينا
For you I lavish a treasure of tears,
which, before you, I had jealously guarded.
يَثورُit surges فيupon وَجنَتَيَّmy two cheeks جَيشاًas an army
يَثورُ في وَجنَتَيَّ جَيشاً
وَكانَand it was فيwithin جَفنِهِits eyelid كَميناlying in ambush
وَكانَ في جَفنِهِ كَمينا
It surges upon my cheeks as an army,
and once lay in ambush within its eyelid.
كَأَنَّنيas though I were بَعدَكُمafter you شِمالٌa left hand
كَأَنَّني بَعدَكُم شِمالٌ
قَدhas فارَقَتparted from مِنكُمُof yours يَميناa right hand
قَد فارَقَت مِنكُمُ يَمينا
As though, without you, I were a left hand
parted from a right hand of yours.
