Is there each day a shudder at some calamity,

At the loss of a dear, comforting friend who gladdens the eye?

For him I pass the night, my eyelids wet with burning grief,

As a narcissus's eye wept beneath the rain.

And sufficient for me, whenever distress pains me,

Is Jacob's comforter and Jonah's deliverer.
