رَأَيتُI saw بِخالِهِin his mole فيin صَحنِthe expanse of خَدِّهِhis cheek
رَأَيتُ بِخالِهِ في صَحنِ خَدِّهِ
فُؤادَthe heart of مُحِبِّهِhis lover فيin نارِthe fire of صَدِّهِhis rejection
فُؤادَ مُحِبِّهِ في نارِ صَدِّهِ
I saw in his mole, upon the expanse of his cheek,
His lover’s heart in the fire of his rejection.
فَخِفتُso I feared وَقَصرُand the exclusive devotion of نَفسيmy soul لَكُمto you (plural) فيهِwithin it
فَخِفتُ وَقَصرُ نَفسي لَكُم فيهِ
فَأَعطانيهِso he gave it to me ميثاقاًas a pledge بِوُدِّهِof his affection
فَأَعطانيهِ ميثاقاً بِوُدِّهِ
I grew afraid, my soul devoted solely to you within it;
So he gave it to me as a pledge of his affection.
وَمَرَّand continued يَجُدُّspurring onward بيme فيهِin it هَواهُlove for him
وَمَرَّ يَجُدُّ بي فيهِ هَواهُ
وَقَدwhile already لَعِبَhad played الصِباyouth بِقَضيبِwith the slender branch of قَدِّهِhis figure
وَقَد لَعِبَ الصِبا بِقَضيبِ قَدِّهِ
And love for him kept spurring me onward in this,
While youth had played with the slender branch of his figure.
