وَأَطلَسَand a gray wolf مِلءُfilling جانِحَتَيهِboth sides of his breast خَوفٌfear
وَأَطلَسَ مِلءُ جانِحَتَيهِ خَوفٌ
لِأَشوَسَof a fierce one مِلءُfilling شَدقَيهِhis two jaws سِلاحُweapons
لِأَشوَسَ مِلءُ شَدقَيهِ سِلاحُ
And a gray wolf, fear filling both sides of his breast,
And the expanse of his wings filled with fear
of a fierce one whose jaws are full of weapons.
The expanse of his cheeks filled with weapons
يُجاهِرُناhe shows himself openly to us يَطيرُhe flies حَذارَin fear طاوٍfamished
يُجاهِرُنا يَطيرُ حَذارَ طاوٍ
لَهُhe has رَكضٌa gallop يَغَصُّis choked بِهِwith it البَراحُthe open expanse
لَهُ رَكضٌ يَغَصُّ بِهِ البَراحُ
He shows himself openly to us, flying in fear, famished;
He overtly flies, cautious of an attacker
his gallop chokes the open expanse.
He has a galloping that excites the prairie
وَأَعجَبُand I marvel أَنthat تَقَلَصَّdrew back ذَيلُthe tail of لَيلٍa night
وَأَعجَبُ أَن تَقَلَصَّ ذَيلُ لَيلٍ
أَحَمَّpitch-black وَقَدand already أَجَدَّhastened بِهِwith it الرَواحُdeparture
أَحَمَّ وَقَد أَجَدَّ بِهِ الرَواحُ
And I marvel that the tail of a night drew back—
And it surprises me that the tail of night has shrunk
pitch-black, with departure already hurrying it onward.
It blazed and the winds intensified it
يَجولُhe roams about بِحَيثُwhere يَكشِرُhe snarls عَنexposing نِصالٍblades
يَجولُ بِحَيثُ يَكشِرُ عَن نِصالٍ
مُؤَلَّلَةٍsharply pointed وَتَحمِلُهُand bear him رِماحُspears
مُؤَلَّلَةٍ وَتَحمِلُهُ رِماحُ
He roams about, baring blades as he goes,
It prowls where it brandishes glittering swords
sharply pointed, while spears bear him along.
Adorned, carried by spears
وَطَوراًand sometimes يَرتَقيhe climbs حُدبَthe rounded crests of الرَوابيthe hills
وَطَوراً يَرتَقي حُدبَ الرَوابي
وَآوِنَةًand at times تَسيلُflow بِهِwith him البِطاحُthe broad plains
وَآوِنَةً تَسيلُ بِهِ البِطاحُ
And sometimes he climbs the hills’ rounded crests,
And it climbs the hilltops of the wilds
and at times the broad plains flow with him.
And it flows with him into the valleys
جَرىhe ran شَدّاًat full speed وَلِلصُبحِand dawn has اِلتِماعٌa gleam
جَرى شَدّاً وَلِلصُبحِ اِلتِماعٌ
بِحَيثُwhere جَرىhe ran وَلِلبَرقِand lightning has اِلتِماحُa flash
بِحَيثُ جَرى وَلِلبَرقِ اِلتِماحُ
He ran at full speed, with dawn gleaming
It flowed rapidly and the dawn was gathering
where he ran, and lightning flashing.
Where it flowed and for lightning, connection
فَخَلخَلَهُthen adorned him with anklets وَسَوَّرَهُand adorned him with bracelets وَميضٌa flash
فَخَلخَلَهُ وَسَوَّرَهُ وَميضٌ
جَرىran مَعَهُwith him وَطَوَّقَهُand adorned him with a collar صَباحُmorning
جَرى مَعَهُ وَطَوَّقَهُ صَباحُ
Then a flash adorned him with anklets and bracelets;
So it shook it, braided it, and a flash
it ran beside him, and morning adorned him with a collar.
Flowed with it and the morning crowned it
