وَأَغيَدَand a graceful, supple youth مَعسولِhoney-sweet اللَمىthe lips' dark hue وَالمَراشِفِand the lips
صَقيلِpolished; gleaming المُحَلّىthe ornament-bearing parts of the body وَالحِلىand the ornaments وَالسَوالِفِand the sides of the neck
And a graceful youth, honey-sweet of dusky lips and mouth,
He brought honey-sweet wine and pillows
gleaming in his adorned form, his ornaments, and the sides of his neck.
Polished swords and jewelry and tales.
I made my camel kneel بِهِbeside him وَالبَرقُwhile the lightning يَهفوflutters جَناحَهُits wing
وَلِلدَيمَةِand the steady rain had الهَطلاءِpouring abundantly حَنَّةُa yearning cry عاطِفِa tender she-camel
I made my camel kneel beside him while lightning fluttered its wing,
I drank it as lightning furled its wings,
and the steady, pouring rain gave a tender she-camel's yearning cry.
And a tender rain fell for the thirsty ground.
فَنادَمتُso I drank with حُلوَone sweet in البِرِkindness وَاللَفظِand speech وَاللِمىand the lips' dark hue
جَميلَbeautiful in المُحَيّاcountenance وَالحِلىand graces وَالعَوارِفِand acts of kindness
So I drank with one sweet in kindness, speech, and dusky lips,
So I conversed with one gentle of speech, face, and manners,
lovely of face, graces, and generous deeds.
Beautiful, adorned with jewels and courtesies.
