فَباتَتِ النَفسُ بِها مُعرِسَه
And a cup of convivial joy that hopes had burnished,
And a cup of conviviality that wishes have fulfilled,
So the soul spent the night resting beside it.
So the soul has spent the night being its bride.

A tame black lion has circled it,
Whoever makes merry with him delights his gathering.
Disturbing whoever toys with it in his sitting place.
فَخِلتُهُso I fancied him مِنof سَبَجٍjet رَبوَةًa hillock

قَد أَنبَتَت مِن ذَهَبٍ نَرجِسَه
So I fancied him a hillock of jet
So I left it because of a splendid magnificence,
That had sprouted a narcissus of gold.
That has grown narcissus flowers from gold.
