And a cloud that night travel could not bear aloft,
With clouds the rising morning star could not master,
So it walked across the darkness like one in fetters.
It walked upon the darkness with fettered gait,
حَمَلَتbore بِهاwith it ريحُwind القَبولِthe east wind سَحابَةًa cloud

The east wind bore it along—a cloud
The wind of acceptance carried within it a cloud,
Trailing skirts that could be touched by hand,
A long-tailed cloud that can be touched by hand.
فيon لَيلَةٍa night قَدindeed باتَspent the night يَلحَسُlicking تَحتَهاbeneath it
حِبراًink لِسانُthe tongue of البارِقِthe lightning المُتَوَقِّدِblazing
On a night when, beneath it, all night long,
On a night when beneath it remains
The tongue of blazing lightning kept licking ink.
The glistening ink of the flaming lightning’s tongue,
نَسَجَwove الضَريبُthe frost بِهاin it الظَلامَthe darkness حَمامَةًa dove
فَاِبيَضَّso turned white كُلُّevery غُرابِraven of لَيلٍnight أَسوَدِblack
Frost there wove the darkness into a dove,
The Pleiades wove with it darkness like a dove,
And every black raven of night turned white.
So every raven of the night turned white.

Behind its veil, the hills' tresses grew gray,
Behind its mask the poison of blindness raged,
And the parting of every supple bough grew grizzled.
And the forelocks of every long-lasting anger bristled.
