مِنfrom كُلِّevery غُصنٍbranch خافِقٍfluttering بِوِشاحِwith a sash
How many a figure sways, resplendent in her robes,
Ah, many a beauty with swaying limbs, proudly adorned
every branch of hers aflutter with a sash;
With every fluttering branch for a sash;
مُهتَزَّةٍswaying يَرتَجُّquivers مِنfrom أَعطافِهاher flanks

quivering, while from the curves of her body heaves
Swaying, while from her flanks there quivers
a broad, full haunch—all one could wish.
An ample, billowing rump, as full as you could wish.
نَفَضَتshook out ذَوائِبَهاher tresses الرِياحُthe winds عَشِيَّةًone evening
فَتَمَلَّكَتهاso it seized her هِزَّةُthe tremor المُرتاحِone rejoicing
The winds shook out her tresses at evening,
The winds shook out her tresses one evening,
and the swaying of one at ease possessed her.
So the tremor of one rejoicing seized her.
حَطَّlowered الرَبيعُspring قِناعَهاher veil عَنfrom مَفرِقٍa crown of the head
شَمطٍgray-streaked كَماjust as تَرتَدُّdraws back كاسُthe cup الراحِwine
Spring lifted the veil away from her parting,
Spring lowered her veil from a crown
white-streaked, as the wine cup comes round again.
Streaked with gray, as the wine cup draws back.
لَفّاءُthick with foliage حاكَwove لَهاfor her الغَمامُthe clouds مُلاءَةًa mantle
لَبِسَتshe donned بِهاin it حُسناًin beauty قَميصَa shirt صَباحِmorning
Dense-foliaged, the clouds wove her a mantle,
Thick with foliage, the clouds wove her a mantle;
and in it she appeared—a beauty in a tunic of morning.
In it, in beauty, she donned a shirt of morning.
نَضَحَsprinkled النَدىthe dew نُوّارَهاher blossoms فَكَأَنَّماso it was as though
مَسَحَتcaressed مَعاطِفَهاher limbs يَمينُthe right hand سَماحِgenerosity
Dew sprinkled her blossoms, as though
Dew sprinkled her blossoms, as though
the right hand of generosity had stroked her robes.
The right hand of generosity had caressed her limbs.
وَلَوىand turned الخَليجُthe stream هُناكَthere صَفحَةَthe cheek مُعرِضٍone turning away
لَثَمَتkissed سَوالِفَهاthe sides of her neck ثُغورُthe mouths أَقاحِdaisies
There the stream curved—the cheek of one turning away—
And there the stream turned an averted cheek;
while daisy mouths kissed her side-locks.
The mouths of daisies kissed the sides of her neck.
