أَذِنَ الرَحيلُ بِلُقيَةٍ لِوَداعِ

أَذِنَ الرَحيلُ بِلُقيَةٍ لِوَداعِ

إِنَّ اللَيالي نَزرَةُ الإِمتاعِ

إِنَّ اللَيالي نَزرَةُ الإِمتاعِ

Departure granted a meeting for farewell.

Indeed, the nights afford scant pleasure.

فَأَطَلتُ عَضَّ أَنامِلي أَسَفاً عَلى

فَأَطَلتُ عَضَّ أَنامِلي أَسَفاً عَلى

زَمَنٍ خَلا مِنهُ قَصيرُ الباعِ

زَمَنٍ خَلا مِنهُ قَصيرُ الباعِ

So I long bit my fingertips, grieving for

A time I was left without, my reach too short.

لَم يَنفَصِم عَن ضَمَّةٍ لِإِقامَةٍ

لَم يَنفَصِم عَن ضَمَّةٍ لِإِقامَةٍ

إِلّا إِلى تَعنيقَةٍ لَزَماعِ

إِلّا إِلى تَعنيقَةٍ لَزَماعِ

I never broke away from an embrace for staying

Except into an embrace for setting out.
