And a splendid robe, embroidered in verse,

swayed the shoulders of my hopes with its literary graces.

Woven of brocade in the mantle of script, you would think it

before your eyes, wrapped in a tunic of that fabric.

I trailed it, wearing through it the mantle of youth,

I drag, in rapture, the hems of one who struts.

How delightful, then, a cool drop that slips down easily,

    from a watering place of surging billows and sweet-flowing water;

and a tender, fragrant blossom that smiles open,

from a dew-drenched garden of gentle breaths,

at the meeting of a hill towering in excellence

and the course of a raincloud pouring forth innate talent.

So don through it an ample robe of glory,

O you of far-reaching glory and noble paternal and maternal kin.

And return the greeting of him who began your bond, who first

offered you, from sincerity's treasure, a hand of reverence.

His home lay far away, so he entrusted his greeting

to a languid breeze with fragrant trailing skirts.

It wandered among the flowers of the hills before dawn,

growing fragrant as it receded and returned.
