تَفاوَتَ نَجلا أَبي جَعفَرٍ

تَفاوَتَ نَجلا أَبي جَعفَرٍ

فَمِن مُتَعالٍ وَمِن مُنسَفِل

فَمِن مُتَعالٍ وَمِن مُنسَفِل

The two sons of Abu Ja‘far differ:

The sons of my father Ja'far are so different

one is exalted, the other lowly.

One is exalted, and one is debased

فَهَذا يَمينٌ بِها أَكلُهُ

فَهَذا يَمينٌ بِها أَكلُهُ

وَهَذا شِمالٌ بِها يَغتَسِل

وَهَذا شِمالٌ بِها يَغتَسِل

So this one is a right hand, with which he eats,

This one profits from his right hand

and this one a left hand, with which he washes himself.

And that one washes with his left hand
