أَبَداً وَلا نَدعو بِقُربِ لِقاءِ
We pray for your long life, that you may remain safe
We surely pray for lasting life, that you may remain safe
forever; we do not pray for a meeting soon.
always, but we do not pray for a meeting soon,

Suppose—by your life—that yesterday he went away angry,
out of fear—by your life!—that he should leave a protector
though kept inviolate from every indecency:
through valor, himself protected from shameful deeds.

the judgment was made without partiality and under protection,
Rule without partiality, and a guardianship
guided by right conduct, with no hope of reward.
pouring forth guidance, and piety without ostentation,

For his sake worshippers and ascetics among mankind pine away,

to say nothing of princes.
this world of men, let alone among princes.
إِناwe indeed أَمِنّاwere safe from السوءَharm مُنذُsince وَليتَناyou governed us

فَوَقَتكَ أَنفُسُنا مِنَ الأَسواءِ
Since you took charge of us, we have been safe from evil,
We have been safe from harm ever since you governed us;
and our souls have recovered from their maladies.
so may our lives shield you from misfortunes.

There is the festival whose beauty you perfected,
May this festival, which you have beautified, bring you joy,
while you remain singled out for every happiness,
and may you remain singled out for every joy,

rising high through virtues heard proclaimed
by the tongues of orators and poets.
from the tongues of orators and poets.

Let no envious man deny your worth in feigned ignorance:
Let the envious man not deny you these through feigned ignorance;
envy cannot be hidden from the discerning.
for dawn is not hidden from the clear-sighted.

Praises are arrayed in public assemblies,
Indeed, praise in assemblies is a rank
though only misers are deprived of them.
denied only to the miserly.

So enjoy robes woven from the embroidery of verse,
So enjoy garments from the brocade of verse,
robes I have adorned with majesty and elevation.
which you embroidered with majesty and eminence.

Had the ancient West possessed the like of him,
Had the Arabs of old possessed their like,
the workmanship of Sana'a would never have been praised.
they would not have praised what was made in Sana'a.

Indeed, I have tethered my mounts and my means of approach
in a court whose precincts teem with inhabitants,
in a court whose courtyards are thronged,

have not been marred by reminders of favor or delay.

You have preserved the lofty house and its structure;
O surviving scion of the house whose structure is lofty,
may you ever nurture eminence, companioned by permanence,
may you ever be the peer of eminence, the ally of lasting life,

enjoying noble deeds and delighting
deeds heard by the attentive ear and seen by the watchful eye.
the listener's ear with them, and the beholder's eye.
