أَباO father of طاهِرٍTahir أَنتَyou عَيبُthe disgrace of الزَمانِthe age
وَعَيبٌand a disgrace لِحَمدانَto Hamdan فيin حُفرَتِهhis grave
O Abu Tahir, you are the disgrace of the age,
Abu Tahir, you are the blemish of time,
and a disgrace to Hamdan in his grave.
And a blemish to Hamdan in his grave.
لَئِنif indeed مَثَلٌa proverb لِطُويسٍabout Tuways جَرىhas circulated
فَإِنَّكَthen indeed you أَشأَمُmore ill-omened مِنthan غُرَّتِهhis countenance
If indeed a proverb about Tuways has become current,
If an example flowed to Tawus,
then you are more ill-omened than his countenance.
Then you are more ominous than his skull.
كَفىmay spare اللَهُGod شُؤمَكَyour ill omen سَيفَthe sword of الإِمامِthe Imam
وَباعَدَand keep far away شَخصَكَyour person عَنfrom حَضرَتِهhis presence
May God spare the Imam’s sword your ill omen,
May God suffice your evil against the Imam's sword,
and keep you far from his presence.
And distance your person from his presence.
