God's gracious favors come to him freely.

was more welcome than the fall of that rain.

he would dim its splendor if the two rose together.

so God answered, in him, the prayer of the one who prayed.

so you may be a delight to see and hear throughout the lands.

May a blessing gladden a house to which it has granted

honor mightier and more unassailable than al-Simak.

so I say: rather, it embraced all Nizar.

and it is fitting to bow to one who inspires dread.

Their kings kept falling prostrate before you,

and scarcely are they [found] bowing to another.

They knew your swordplay in war and submitted,

so you returned with a supremacy none can deny.

And in peace you clothed them, withholding nothing,

with many times what your swords had stripped away in battle.

Thus you destroyed them in single combat, cutting them down,

and enriched them when pardoning, granting them estates.

By your pardon you turned their misery to blessing,

and through your bounty turned their winter quarters to spring pasture.

They abandoned seeking pasture from rainclouds, and headed

for a shade that grows lush whenever the year turns barren.

The swift leaves the slow one behind.

You climb toward it a parasang each day,

while others climb a finger's breadth a day.

O mainstay of the caliphs, how many favors of yours

has Time stood to proclaim as an eloquent orator!

You bestowed mighty blessings upon it; ignorant is he

who thinks it praises you without obligation.

and your might has preserved for it what it had squandered.

were they to seek it, they would return limping.

You would surely refuse to don a robe of virtues

until you saw it studded with praise.

So earth's people came to you from its horizons,

eagerly: your bounty called out and made itself heard.

O son of those who, when strides fell short,

outreached others there in stride, sword-edge, and arm!

You raised your people to a rank none can climb:

the Milky Way is a meadow that will never be grazed.

    فَلَهُم بِكَ الشَرَفُ الَّذي لا يُدَّعا

    So let the Turks' standing rise, since you are one of them;

through you theirs is an honor no other can claim.

The world has yielded to your rule in awe,

and you have ruled its regions, seated cross-legged.

Since your fame sped across the horizons,

it has left no place free of fear of your vengeance.

May the energetic man, far-reaching in ambition, be your ransom,

and the idler who has made indolence his bed,

and the man others look to, who found you a source of plenty,

and the terrified man who found no refuge but you.

Gifts from you have overwhelmed my praise,

leaving in it no share for anyone else to hope for.

Its path had once been obscure,

but through your bounty you made it a broad, clear road.

Yet praise falls short of you, although I

have left no further draw in the bow of praise.
