فيin نفسهhis inner self كالنفسlike the soul فيin جثمانهاits body
The lover dies without fulfilling a desire
The lover remains awake though he has no desire;
lodged within him like the soul within its body.
Like the soul to the body that houses it.

It eluded the slanderers' knowledge, so now
My love defied the knowledge of slanderers, so it became
the slanderer cannot master its unyielding rein.
Impossible for the slanderer to rein it in.

It pressed hard upon my breast; and were it to afflict
It constricted my chest, and if it took pity on me
Time's breast, that breast would be too narrow to conceal it.
The chest of an era would constrict to conceal it.

Endurance is spent, though separation is only beginning,
Patience and resolve were depleted from the start,
and the yearning lover's passion remains unyielding.
As was the passion of the enamored youth to resist it.

The hand of longing unfolded his folded tears,
The hand of yearning spread open his tears,
and folded his last spark of life around its sorrows.
And his eyelids folded over their sorrows.
