أمجادليO you who dispute with me فيمنabout the one whose رويتُI recounted صفاتهِhis attributes
أمجادلي فيمن رويتُ صفاتهِ
عنfrom هلhas ...? أتىcome وشرفنَand they were noble منas أوصافِattributes
عن هل أتى وشرفنَ من أوصافِ
O you who dispute with me about him whose attributes I recounted
My glories are among those whose traits I have narrated
from “Has There Come”—and how noble those attributes are!

أتظنُّdo you think? تأخيرَplacing later الإمامthe Imam نقيصةًa defect
أتظنُّ تأخيرَ الإمام نقيصةً
والنقضand undoing للأطرافfor the extremities لاnot الأشرافthe noble
والنقض للأطراف لا الأشراف
Do you think the Imam’s being placed later a defect?
Do you think delaying the Imam is a flaw
And undoing is for the extremities, not the noble.
And the flaw is in the extremities, not the nobility
زوجُhusband البتولthe Chaste One ووالدand father السبطينthe two grandsons والand the
زوجُ البتول ووالد السبطين وال
فاديransomer of النبيthe Prophet ونجلُand scion عبدʿAbd (servant) منافManāf
فادي النبي ونجلُ عبد مناف
Husband of the Chaste One and father of the two grandsons, and the
Husband of the maiden and father of the two grandsons and not
ransomer of the Prophet, and scion of ʿAbd Manāf.
Redeemer of the prophet and son of Abd Manaf
أوand ...? ماnot ترىyou see أنthat الكواكبَthe planets سبعةٌseven
أو ما ترى أن الكواكبَ سبعةٌ
والشمسand the sun رائعةٌsplendid بغيرwithout خلافdispute
والشمس رائعةٌ بغير خلاف
And do you not see that the planets are seven,
Or do you not see that the planets are seven
and the sun is splendid, beyond dispute?
And the sun is outstanding without disagreement
