May God water the days of al-ʿAzīz with His generosity;
May God water the days of the dear one's generosity
For the finest rain is offered to the finest soil.
The best of the living should be guided to the best source
وبيand within me لوعةٌburning grief إنif ملتُI turned away عنهُfrom him مليةٌabounding
عليهfor him بإدمانwith persistence in البُكاweeping والتلفتِand looking back
And if I turn away from him, my burning grief abounds
And I have intense yearning, if I am distracted from him for a moment
In ceaseless weeping for him and looking back.
I am addicted to constant weeping and turning to him
وكنتand I was جديراًworthy أنto أموتَdie صبابةًof ardent longing
ولكنَّbut حياًa living person لاnot يدومُendures لميتِfor a dead person
And I might well have died of ardent longing,
And I would have deserved to die in youth
But the living do not endure forever for the dead.
But the living does not last for the dead
فكلُّso every سرورٍjoy آلturned مناof ours إلىto أسىsorrow
وكلُّand every اجتماعٍgathering بعدهafter it للتشتتِfor dispersal
So every joy of ours has turned to sorrow,
So all our joy turned to sorrow
And every gathering is followed by dispersal.
And every gathering led later to dispersal
