قبحَ الإله عصابةً ما فيهمِ

يقظٌ يبيّض أوجه الآمالِ

May God disgrace a band, not one of whom

May God disfigure a gang who has none

is awake to brighten the faces of hopes.

نامت عيونهمُ لنوم قلوبهم

فبياضُ صبحهمِ سواد ليالي

Their eyes slept because their hearts slept;

Their eyes slept due to the sleep of their hearts

so the whiteness of their morning is the blackness of nights.

So the whiteness of their dawn is the blackness of nights

لاتطمعنْ ما عشت في لقياهمُ

لاتطمعنْ ما عشت في لقياهمُ

إلاّ إذا ما كنتَ طيفَ خيال

إلاّ إذا ما كنتَ طيفَ خيال

Never hope, as long as you live, to meet them,

Do not hope as long as you live to meet them

unless you are a phantom of the imagination.
