منfrom قبلهاbefore it لسماحةto generosity بمعودaccustomed
من قبلها لسماحة بمعود
Indeed, I marvel how you gave generously, though you had not been
I wonder how generosity came to be
accustomed to generosity before this.
When no one practiced it before
قدmay يفعلproduce الشيءthe thing الدنيlowly نفيسةsomething precious
قد يفعل الشيء الدني نفيسة
حدedge الحسامthe sword صنيعhandiwork صفحflat face المبردthe file
حد الحسام صنيع صفح المبرد
A lowly thing may produce something precious:
A noble soul can make the lowliest thing
The sword's edge is the work of the file's flat face.
As sharp as a sword made by Al-Mubrad
والنجمand the star فيin جنحwing الظلامthe darkness ضياؤهits radiance
والنجم في جنح الظلام ضياؤه
ومنand from السوادblackness اشتقwas derived طعمsavor السؤددeminence
ومن السواد اشتق طعم السؤدد
And the star's radiance lies in the wing of darkness,
The star's light shines in the darkness of night
And from blackness is derived the savor of eminence.
And from the black soil comes sweet fruit
