How many borrowed forms amid the great trees of al-Abraqayn—

Boughs from them, putting forth tresses as leaves!

From each one deadlier than the swords of their eyelids

In glance, and more slender than the dusky, supple spears.

And indeed I stood there, while the hand of its spring

Shone as it wove the robe of its blossoms.

And the warp is cloud-threads that the rain sends down

Unceasingly, while the plants’ buds burst open.

A planting of delights, whose breeze grew jealous,

So it swept toward the anemone’s robes, tearing them apart.

And the bān tree dances, while the doves call out,

Singing, while the edges of the pool clap.

And the lightning-flash through the gaps in the clouds is like the banner

Of King al-ʿAzīz, its radiance gleaming.
