God bless the brazier whose heat protected us

from Kanun’s gusts, which bring no pleasure.

We spent the night, shielded by the blaze,

nay, in a paradise whose breaths are not barred.

And war is locked in dispute; its verdict’s outcome

is snow that has settled, leaving no way through.

So the clouds are banners, and their lightning flashes

are bright sword-edges; the earth is a gray steed.

And incense is its dust cloud, and our candles’ blossoms

are stout spears; the charcoal is gilded arrows.
