دون ما يبغي لقاءِ الحمامِ
Tell whoever seeks to challenge my poetry:
Between him and what he seeks lies an encounter with death.
ياO زمانseason الشتاءwinter ياO ثلجةa lump of snow الـthe (continued)
يا زمان الشتاء يا ثلجة الـ
مقرورone shivering برداًwith cold ياO لقطةَfoundling الحمَّامthe bathhouse
مقرور برداً يا لقطةَ الحمَّام
O wintertime, O lump of snow for the
one shivering with cold, O bathhouse foundling!
خلّleave عنكaway from you القريضَpoetry والنسبand the lineage الـthe (continued)
خلّ عنك القريضَ والنسب الـ
مكذوبfalsely claimed فيin وصفهِits description إلىto ابنIbn (son of) الحمامal-Hammam
مكذوب في وصفهِ إلى ابن الحمام
Give up poetry and the lineage
falsely described as tracing back to Ibn al-Hammam.
