Invited to the Jews’ Sabbath, we could find
We were invited to the Jews' Sabbath, but did not find
no dwelling of theirs where we might be warmly received and drawn near.
a dwelling of theirs where we might be shown kindness and welcomed.
كأنَّاas though we فيin تيهwilderness موسىMoses ضلالةٌwandering astray
كأنَّا في تيه موسى ضلالةٌ
نشرقُwe head east أحياناًat times وحيناًand at times نغرّبُwe head west
نشرقُ أحياناً وحيناً نغرّبُ
As though we were lost in Moses’ wilderness,
As though we were lost in Moses' wilderness,
we head east at times, and at other times west.
we head east at times, and at times we head west.
فماso what ليfor me ومصراًwith Egypt لاmay no سقتهاwater it سحابةٌٌcloud
فما لي ومصراً لا سقتها سحابةٌٌ

همُ كفروا فيها ونحنُ نعَّذبُ
What have I to do with Egypt? May no cloud ever water it!
So what have I to do with Egypt? May no cloud water it!
They disbelieved there, yet we are the ones being punished.
They disbelieved there, yet we are tormented.
