As for the breeze, its visits never fail.
So hear the ban-trees’ tale when it repeats it.

And ask it of a clan that, to slay its lover,
Keeps its spears and slender forms forever swaying.

عنفَ العذولُ مفنّداً بمتّيمٍ
لاnot عذلهُhis reproach يجديavails ولاnor تفنيدهhis charges of folly
لا عذلهُ يجدي ولا تفنيده
The reproacher harshly called a love-stricken man a fool;
Neither his reproach nor his faultfinding avails.

So judgment fell against him, with tears as witnesses.

Jealous as he is, that passion’s victim should complain of it.

My hands grew weak against love, and all joined forces
To hurt me—sorrow’s weapons and its hosts.
