Befriend the gazelle when it draws near, and the sword-edges—
The gazelle left its companion gazelle and departed
Their striking edges have forsaken their sheaths—
Its dwellings are those with flawed pillars

And the second row with black helmets
And white, keen swords like flames.
And the whites of swords like flames

أن يلبس الشمس ثوب الطفل
I seek protection for your dazzling noble qualities,
I seek refuge for your brilliant virtues
Lest the sun be clothed in a robe of dusk.
Lest the sun dons a child's garb

To journey to your palm’s refuge and alight there.
To the corner of your palm, contracting and loosening

For its essence is a spring of dew

How, then, can someone even be placed ahead of me—
So how can one like me presume
One whose honor finds a dwelling in me?
To reach the honor of its place?

Their range would still fall short

If you have attained what none can attain
Yet fortune has not granted the full measure of my hope.
Then fate has not fulfilled all hopes

One who desires the moon neglects the stars
And whoever seeks the sea disdains a trickle.
One who dares the sea scorns the streams

For how much has been said of me, gathering
And of you: ‘No wonder—he has done so.’
And you - no wonder you have done so!
